Fundex pile

The fundex pile is a full displacement drilled pile that produces no cuttings. It enables low-vibration foundations and is particularly suitable for inner-city construction projects as well as sensitive existing developments. The pile system is particularly suitable for high ground pressure densities in the vicinity of the pile toe.

Fundex pile
in accordance with DIN EN 12 699

The fundex pile is a full displacement drilled pile belonging to the Screw pile family. The pile system is installed without vibration and with minimal noise, and is suitable for foundations in inner-city areas as well as near sensitive structures. As the soil is completely displaced, no drill cuttings are produced, thereby reducing the effort required for transport and disposal.

A characteristic feature of the fundex pile is its smooth pile shaft, which is produced without a cutting head. Load transfer occurs mainly via the pile foot and high tip pressure resistance. This means that the fundex pile can be used for various foundation tasks in special civil engineering.

Areas of application include:

  • Residential and commercial buildings
  • Office blocks
  • Hotels
  • Logistics centres
  • Industrial buildings
  • Retrofitting foundations for existing structures
  • Construction projects with high requirements for vibration and noise protection

Benefits / Features

Fundex piles can be adapted to different subsoil conditions and project requirements through various design variants. The pile system is selected taking into account the geological, technical and structural constraints.

  • Method: Full-displacement method without soil excavation. This means that no drill cuttings are produced and the surrounding subsoil is compacted.
  • Bearing capacity: Depending on the design variant, characteristic pile resistance values of up to 3,000 kN can be achieved. A high peak compressive resistance is achieved through the special load transfer via the pile toe. This makes the fundex pile particularly suitable for foundation works involving high compressive loads.
  • Construction: Low-noise construction with minimal vibrations is possible.
  • Design: Vertical and inclined piles up to an inclination of 4:1.
  • Energy piles: Designs suitable for geothermal applications are possible
  • Operating conditions: Suitable for use in contaminated soils, as no material is extracted from deeper soil layers. Construction is also possible where working height is limited and space is confined.

Basic facts

Our displacement piles in accordance with DIN EN 12 699 include:

  • Driven precast piles (steel pipe piles)
  • In-situ concrete driven piles (Frankipfahl piles, Simplex piles)
  • Helical piles (Atlas piles, Fundex piles)
  • Grouted displacement piles (ductile piles, HPD piles)

Helical piles are designed and manufactured in accordance with Eurocode 7 and DIN EN 12 699 and the recommendations of the “Piles” working group (EA-Pfähle). Diameters can range from 38/45cm to 51/61cm (inside/outside). Pile lengths of up to 30m are possible.

The following types of foundations are possible:

  • Single pile foundations with one-dimensional load transfer
  • Group pile foundations with two-dimensional load transfer
  • Special case: combined pile raft foundations

The wide variety of available variants allows us to adapt to the most diverse subsoil conditions and construction site scenarios in order to achieve high load-bearing capacities.

60-degree pile tip

As they fully displace the soil, these pile systems are also well suited to contaminated sites. To prevent the spread of contaminants during pile fabrication, a 60-degree pile tip is used when drilling through the contaminated layer.

Sealing plug

For pile foundations passing through contaminated soil layers, it must be ensured that no pollutants from the contaminated area enter other soil layers or the groundwater, either during or after construction. This can be achieved by installing special sealing elements within the contaminated layer, through which the piles are subsequently driven. Alternatively, pile systems are used in which no annular space is created between the pile body and the ground during construction.

Quality assurance

To ensure quality during construction, the requirements of European and national standards, as well as the recommendations of the ‘Piles’ Working Group (EA-Pfähle), must be observed. Self-monitoring and documentation of the construction work are governed by the manufacturing standards.

The installation of screw piles requires a set of procedural instructions individually coordinated with the requirements of the project in question. As such, in addition to specialist knowledge and experience, the machine operator’s judgement is also crucial. This is because operating the large specialist equipment is a delicate process in which the optimal adjustment of the production parameters is essential to achieving the desired pile resistance.

We ensure a high standard of workmanship through:

  • Individually coordinated procedural instructions
  • Compliance with the requirements of DIN EN 12 699, Eurocode 7 and EA piles
  • Clear processes via our quality management system in accordance with DIN EN 9001:2015
  • Static or dynamic pile load testing
  • Pile integrity tests
