Completion of work on the Salzbachtal Bridge infrastructure project
/ Structural engineering
Wiesbaden, 24 July 2025 – The construction of the new Salzbachtal Bridge in Wiesbaden is in its final phase. The construction project, which is being implemented by ARGE PORR in collaboration with Plauen Stahl Technologie GmbH (PST), includes two modern steel composite bridges as well as a reinforced concrete bridge over the single-track Aarltalbahn railway line. The 324-metre-long bridge on the A66 motorway has been completely rebuilt as it no longer met requirements due to age-related damage and a sharp increase in heavy goods traffic.
Work is currently in its final phase. The electrical connections are being completed inside the hollow box of the bridge. The bitumen welding strip is currently being applied to the northern superstructure, followed by the installation of the base strips and the mastic asphalt in the carriageway area.
At the same time, extensive earthworks are being carried out at the junctions as well as in the area below the Salzbachtal bridge: the embankments are being shaped, formwork boards are being installed and wet seeding is being applied. In addition, the terrain below the bridge is being landscaped. Further final measures include the erection of a stele with the most important project information and participants, as well as the installation of a smoothness monitoring system.
This work marks the final stages of the completion of a major infrastructure project that will contribute to greater safety and efficiency in Wiesbaden's transport network in the future.
