Dresdner Schützengarten: Block C handed over on time

/ Building construction / News / Press Release

The neighbourhood project has impressive dimensions: PORR Hochbau Region Ost is constructing 19 buildings in two blocks with 402 flats, 2 underground car parks, spacious green areas and children's playgrounds in Dresden's city centre near the Zwinger. The turnkey handover of Block C was completed on schedule in March 2024.

The neighbourhood has words of praise for the architecture

The buildings are arranged as perimeter blocks around two green inner courtyards. On the street side, the façades are clad with clinker brick slips in colours typical of Dresden. In this way, the area between Wettiner Platz and Mitte railway station is linked to the historical context before 1945. The project is attracting a great deal of attention due to its urban planning significance. ‘Residents from the neighbourhood often come to the construction site. We talk to them about their impressions of the completed buildings and the reviews have always been positive,’ says PORR project manager Matthias Hoffmann.

In the so-called Torhaus, which connects blocks A and C on the corner of Könneritzstrasse and Jahnstrasse, 78 barrier-free and partially wheelchair-accessible flats are being built for service-orientated living. From there, Planstrasse B leads to the neighbourhood square. A central meeting place is being created where the historic Schützengarten used to be. All open spaces will be intensively landscaped with trees, shrubs and flowers and designed with children's playgrounds.

On-time completion in sight thanks to Lean management

The PORR team is currently working flat out on the extension of Building A, which is due to be handed over in September 2024. The first façades have already been demolished. ‘Planned road B, which separates blocks A and C, is also still under construction. This means that construction operations are a technical challenge while Block C is being utilised at the same time,’ says site manager Lutz Rosenberg. ‘The interior construction is structured according to the Lean plan and as our subcontractors are also convinced of this type of cycle planning, the work is progressing well despite all the challenges,’ he continues.
