The contract covers a total of 56 underground storage facilities—including ammunition depots, two administrative buildings, a rail spur, roads, and extensive infrastructure. 

Christian Schumacher, COO of PORR Government Services, describes the project as a milestone: “It will be the largest single project in the construction history of PORR Government Services. In collaboration with PORR S.A., this is a great opportunity to strengthen our presence in the Polish military market as well as in larger projects with the USACE across Europe.” 

Built on trust: a long-standing partnership with the USACE

The partnership between PORR Government Services and the USACE is built on decades of trust. For over 40 years, the USACE has relied on PORR to execute complex construction projects reliably. The previous project, “Restoration of Munition Storage Area,” was completed successfully, on schedule, and to a high standard—and met all U.S. and local requirements. Particular emphasis was placed on comprehensive occupational safety.

The new contract confirms this long-standing, stable partnership and emphasises the client’s trust.

Exciting Challenges   

The project presents the team with challenging conditions. The quality requirements for the precast concrete elements are particularly high, as both U.S. and European standards must be met. At the same time, the team is working on a military site, which complicates access and construction site operations. Added to this is the logistical complexity: a large number of ammunition bunkers are being built within just three years, requiring extremely precise planning and coordination.
