Frankfurt U5: PORR Begins Complex Construction Phase Under the Cantilever of the SPIN TOWER
Frankfurt, / Special civil engineering
Construction of the U5 line in Frankfurt is progressing steadily. PORR has now completed key preparatory civil engineering work on schedule and is preparing to begin work on the access structure—despite the extremely confined construction site and challenging conditions.
Work on the extension of the U5 line in Frankfurt is continuing apace.
In February, PORR Spezialtiefbau completed a key element for the next construction phase: the installation of 13 dewatering lances with depths of up to 36 meters. These are used for dewatering and are essential for the safe excavation of the future southeast access structure. The excavation work will be carried out by PORR Verkehrswegebau in the coming weeks.
At the same time, PORR Verkehrswegebau will begin backfilling the surface of the partially completed Güterplatz station. For this backfilling, soil material will be used that was excavated and stored as part of another nearby PORR construction project. A resource-conserving contribution to the material cycle economy.
Construction under cramped conditions
The construction site for the access structure is located directly beneath the cantilever of the neighboring SPIN TOWER and immediately adjacent to its facade—with limited headroom and restricted lateral space. This complicated logistics, material storage, and, above all, the maneuverability of the equipment. Nevertheless, all work was completed on schedule, safely, and to PORR’s usual high standards, so that nothing now stands in the way of the excavation work.
Focus on quality, safety, and on-time delivery
The client sets clear priorities: adherence to deadlines, workplace safety, and consistently high-quality execution. PORR consistently meets these requirements despite the complex inner-city location and numerous technical challenges.
