Successful cooperation between municipal and private real estate industry
The state-owned WBM Wohnungsbaugesellschaft Berlin-Mitte mbH only acquired the new building project from the project developer QUARTERBACK Immobilien AG in July 2024. Just two months later, QUARTERBACK board member Henrik Thomsen and the two managing directors of WBM Berlin, Lars Dormeyer and Steffen Helbig, welcomed several prominent Berliners to the topping-out ceremony; first and foremost, the Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner, as well as the District Mayor of Lichtenberg, Martin Schaefer.
All those present agreed that the cooperation between the municipal and private real estate sectors serves as a model for creating the affordable living space that is so urgently needed in Berlin.
Efficient construction thanks to Lean Construction
Marc Leutloff, PORR's Commercial Director for the Eastern Region, emphasised the great responsibility borne by PORR as the executing construction company: ‘Creating affordable living space remains attractive for project developers and the construction industry only if construction costs can be reliably kept low. For us, the key to this lies in maximising efficiency and streamlining processes across all construction phases. With our proven Lean methods, we also ensure a high quality of execution.’
The building, designed by the Berlin-based architecture firm Deluse Architects, is aligned with ESG criteria, the green roofs will be equipped with photovoltaic systems, and the use of the materials installed supports the idea of sustainability. Last, but not least, 412 bicycle parking spaces and 69 car parking spaces will be available to residents.
