Low-temperature asphalt (LTA), also known as temperature-reduced asphalt, is an asphalt mixture used in road construction and transport route engineering. Compared with conventional hot asphalt, it is produced and laid at lower temperatures, which can be up to 30 °C lower depending on the process and type of mixture.
Low-temperature asphalt is used in road construction for various traffic and load classes. The choice of process is made taking into account technical, standard-based and project-specific requirements.
The lower production and processing temperatures can result in differences in energy requirements, production conditions and laying processes. Furthermore, lower levels of vapours and aerosols may be produced during processing.
