900 cubic meters of concrete mark the next phase of construction at the GĂŒterplatz subway station
Frankfurt , / Structural engineering
Another important milestone in the construction of the GĂŒterplatz subway station: Block 1 of the station ceiling on the east side has been successfully poured with concrete. A total of approximately 900 cubic meters of concrete was poured. The project, carried out by PORR Ingenieurbau on behalf of Stadtbahn Entwicklung und Verkehrsinfrastrukturprojekte Frankfurt GmbH (SBEV), is thus proceeding according to schedule and has entered a new phase of construction.
900 cubic metres of concrete mark the start of the next phase of construction
A major milestone has been reached on the east side of the station: Block 1 of the station ceiling has been successfully poured. A total of approximately 900 cubic meters of concrete was used for this. Next, the support scaffolding in this area of the station structure will be gradually dismantled. With the completion of this construction phase, work on the station shell continues to progress.
At the same time, work is proceeding inside the future station. Currently, the transition structures connecting to the tunnel tubes are being constructed. These components are crucial for ensuring a functional and watertight connection between the station and the existing tunnel structures.
As the structure nears completion, the dismantling of the temporary bracing structure is also beginning. The dismantling of what is known as Bracing Layer A began in late April and is expected to end in early August. This step marks another important milestone in the construction process and demonstrates that the station can independently bear the full loads from earth and water pressure.
At the end of May, backfilling work began on the east side, gradually closing off the excavation pit. At the same time, work is underway on the west side of the station, where another intermediate floor as well as the exterior and interior walls are currently being constructed. This means the stationâs structural shell is being completed section by section.
The new GĂŒterplatz subway station is a central element of the U5 line extension, which will reliably transport thousands of passengers daily in the future. With each completed construction phase, not only is a complex inner-city structure taking shape, but another building block is being added to efficient and sustainable mobility in Frankfurtâs Europaviertel.
